Hackathons are social events held to bring together various people with technical backgrounds, and combine their expertise to create useful software or hardware. These events began since 1999, and the inventions made often make its way into public use through acquisition by large corporations.
In 2014, Hong Kong held its first international Hackathon with 12 participating teams from many different countries, where Dr. Leonard Chan, CEO of Pulse Mediatech Limited (PMT), participated as a judge of the event.
